Who we are

Founded by someone who built the systems, not just advised on them

"I build financial institutions that last and markets that work for people who have never had access to them before."

MicroStrategy Partners is the advisory practice of Ermias Eshetu engineer, financier, and institutional architect with over 25 years of executive leadership across Africa and Europe. Ermias founded and led FSD Ethiopia, transformed the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange into Africa's first national electronic trading platform, and serves today as Advisory Board Chairman of Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC and Chairman of Zemen Bank S.C.

Before returning to Ethiopia, Ermias held technology and strategy roles at IBM, Alcatel, Orange, and MicroStrategy in the United Kingdom and Europe building the engineering and analytical rigour that underpins everything MicroStrategy Partners does. His MSc in International Business from Manchester Business School and BSc in Computation from UMIST give him a rare combination of financial and technical fluency that most advisors in this space simply do not have.

MicroStrategy Partners is not a large firm. It is a principal-led practice where every engagement is led personally by Ermias bringing the full weight of his operating experience, relationships, and judgment to bear on your specific challenge.

Our edge

The knowledge that only comes from doing it

Most advisory firms arrive with frameworks built from observing other people's markets. MicroStrategy Partners arrives with something different: three decades of accumulated knowledge from building, breaking, and fixing institutions in real conditions in one of Africa's largest, most complex, and most consequential economies.

This is knowledge that cannot be replicated by reading reports, attending conferences, or modelling spreadsheets. It comes from being in the room when the regulator says no, when the board splinters, when the platform goes live and the farmers don't come, and knowing from experience what to do next.

Four principles form the intellectual foundation of every MicroStrategy Partners engagement:

Apply this to your challenge
I
Trust is the only infrastructure that matters
In every market Ermias has built in commodity trading, banking, telecoms, financial inclusion the technical solution was never the binding constraint. Trust was. Getting farmers to trade electronically, getting regulators to approve new instruments, getting international investors to commit capital: all of it required building trust before the system worked. That insight shapes every engagement.
G
Governance is the multiplier on everything else
Capital without governance loses its value. Technology without governance creates risk. Talent without governance becomes fragmented. Zemen Bank's 15× ROI did not come from a brilliant product it came from governance discipline that enabled disciplined growth. MicroStrategy Partners' primary value-add in any engagement is always governance.
L
Local ownership is a strategy, not a sentiment
The ECX e-Trade platform was built by Ethiopian engineers. FSD Ethiopia was designed for Ethiopian conditions. When Ermias joined Safaricom Ethiopia's Advisory Board, he became the first Ethiopian in that role. This is not coincidence. Externally-owned solutions break down in frontier markets the moment the external party leaves. Local ownership is the only sustainable model.
C
Candour is the scarcest resource in advisory
The most common failure mode in advisory relationships is the advisor telling the client what they want to hear. MicroStrategy Partners is built on the opposite principle. Ermias's value as an independent board director and as an advisor is his willingness to say what needs to be said, backed by the credibility that comes from having built the institutions himself.
What we are building

Africa's reference advisory practice for institutional and family capital

MicroStrategy Partners is not trying to become a large firm. It is trying to become the most trusted one the practice that Africa's most consequential institutions and families turn to when the decision genuinely matters.

01
The go-to governance advisor for Africa's most significant institutions
As African institutions mature banks, telecoms operators, DFIs, sovereign vehicles they need board-level governance that is both globally sophisticated and locally grounded. MicroStrategy Partners intends to be the practice that provides that: independent, experienced, and uncompromising on standards.
02
The trusted advisor to Africa's emerging family wealth
A generation of African entrepreneurs is accumulating significant wealth for the first time. Most have no roadmap for how to structure, govern, and sustain it across generations. MicroStrategy Partners is building the capability to serve this emerging need family office setup, investment governance, and succession planning built for African contexts.
03
The bridge between international capital and African markets
Ethiopia and East Africa represent one of the last major untapped frontiers for international institutional capital. Bringing that capital in requires advisors who understand both sides the international investor's risk framework and the local market's operating reality. MicroStrategy Partners is positioned to be that bridge.

"We are building the advisory practice that Africa's financial future deserves one that holds institutions to the highest governance standards, helps families build wealth that endures across generations, and connects the continent's markets to the global capital they need to grow."
